A gentle guide to your first tech job switch
Advice from twelve community members who switched into tech from teaching, sales, nursing and accounting.
Every week someone asks us the same question: "I'm 28 / 32 / 40 — is it too late to move into tech?" We asked twelve community members who made the switch. Here is what they agree on.
1. Pick a direction before picking a course
The most common regret was buying courses first and choosing a path later. Spend two weeks talking to people who do the job — testers, developers, analysts, designers — before spending a rupee.
2. Your old career is a feature, not a bug
The nurse became a health-tech analyst. The teacher became a technical trainer. The salesman became a pre-sales engineer earning more than the developers. Domain knowledge plus basic tech beats basic tech alone.
3. Build one real thing
One finished project answers more interview questions than five certificates.
4. Find your people
